Special Programs

On March 30, at 1:00 pm, Lori and Warner Boin will treat us to some delicious Passover foods and recipes.  The Boin women will prove that food does not have to taste like dry cardboard during Passover.  This class is open to everyone regardless age or gender, but there is a $4.00 per person fee to cover the cost of ingredients for this class.  RSVP to Cindy by March 27.

Classes

The Temple Sinai Adult Education program has great plans for the 2007-2008 year.  Below you will find the schedule and cost for classes that are beginning in September.  There will be new classes and guest speakers added each month.  Please check the Shofar monthly for this information.  Please check the Adult Ed brochure (available in the Temple office and the table outside the sanctuary) for the listing of all classes being offered this year.  Please contact Cindy in the Temple office at 281-496-5950 if you have any questions as well as to register for all classes.  (TSM=Temple Sinai Member fee; NTSM=Non-Temple Sinai Member fee)

Hebrew I - Introduction to Hebrew.  This one-year class meets each Sunday starting September 16, 10:45 am -11:45 am.  $36 TSM, $54 NTSM

Hebrew II - Students will develop fluency in prayer book Hebrew.  This one-year class meets each Sunday starting September 16, 10:45 am - 11:45 am.  $36 TSM, $54 NTSM

Hebrew III - Students will learn to read from the Torah.  This one-year class meets each Tuesday starting August 28, 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm.  $36 TSM, $54 NTSM

Conversational Hebrew – This class will be divided into two semesters, September 24 - January 28 and February 4 - June 2.  Each semester will concentrate on the basics of conversational Hebrew and grammar.  Basic skills of reading Hebrew are helpful.  A review of Hebrew will be given one hour prior to each class at no additional charge.  Hebrew review begins, Monday, Sept. 24, 6:00pm-7:00, Conversational Hebrew begins Monday, Sept. 24 7:00pm-8:30.  Each semester is $30 TSM, $54 NTSM

Weekly Torah Study – begins Thursday, September 28, 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm. No charge.

Basic Judaism – Introduction to Judaism, led by Rabbi Barry Diamond.  Please contact the Rabbi for day and time.  No charge.

Cantillation – Learn to chant Torah – Begins Wednesday. Sept. 19, 5:30pm – 6:30pm.  $36 TSM, $54 NTSM

Florance Melton Adult Mini School – A comprehensive overview of Jewish history, heritage, traditions, ethics and values (2 year commitment).  Begins Thursday, Oct. 11, 7:00pm - 9:15pm.  Contact the Temple office for fee information.

Lunch Bookies – Read thought-provoking books and discuss them over lunch with friends.  This group meets periodically on Wednesdays from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm. There is no charge for this activity; contact the Temple office for the date of the next meeting.

Pirkei Avot – Wisdom of the Sages – Come and discuss the famous rabbinic quotations that are just as pertinent today as they were 2000 years ago.  Begins Wednesday, Oct. 3, 6:45pm – 8:00pm for four weeks.  $10 TSM, $15 NTSM
