Day 12 (Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2008)

Surprisingly, this was the first and only day that we got a real dose of rain.  January and February are the rainy months of Israel, but we managed to avoid the bad weather during the bulk of our trip.

The only things that we did this day were to eat an enormous breakfast buffet (big surprise), collect up our bags, and drive to the airport.  Security at the airport was tight, just as you would expect, but not brutally so.  We got on the plane, and departed the Promised Land from what had been an unbelievable experience.

The flight back was relatively unremarkable.  The worst part was that we were chasing the sun across the entire Atlantic.  We left Israel at 11:15 am, and landed 12 hours later in Newark at 4:30 pm, with bright sunshine for the entire flight.  Of course, it was 11:30 pm Israel time by then, so we were all pretty exhausted.  I passed out on the flight from Newark to Houston, but it still wasn’t enough sleep to make a big difference.  It was great to have Lori and Warner greet me at the airport, and I enjoyed filling them in on my trip as we drove back home.  Once home, I presented them with the gifts I had picked up during the trip.  They both enjoyed the feeling of Chanukah in February.  For me, it was great to be home again.  However, I now have another home across the ocean, and cannot wait to return to it, this time with my wife and children, in order to complete the circle.  Baruchim Habayim L’Yisrael – Welcome Home to Israel.
