Sisterhood

Shh....don't tell the guys, but Temple Sinai Sisterhood is the HEART of our congregation!  Sisterhood women (not the same ones, of course!) have been involved for decades in creating a home and a family atmosphere within the Temple.  Over the years we have sponsored every holiday celebration that involves food - both providing and eating!

Our programs include activities for all ages, from our socially active Senior Sisters, to our College Connection,  which sends cards and token holiday gifts to our college kids away from home, to our "Shalom Yeladim" for toddlers and their parents, which provides fun and learning for our little ones, as well as an opportunity for our younger couples to socialize and form lasting friendships.  In between, we have guest speakers, book discussions, international and mystery dinners, Torah study, game nights (often with Brotherhood co-sponsoring), vendor shopping bazaar days, and other special events.

Every Temple Sinai woman, whether Jewish or not, is invited to join Sisterhood.  There are various annual dues levels, beginning at $36, with accompanying gift shop discounts at each level.  Financial aid for dues is available on a confidential case-by-case basis.  Membership is also open to any Jewish woman, whether or not a Temple Sinai member.
Sisterhood also operates the Temple gift shop, L'Dor v'Dor, providing Katy and West Houston a valuable and necessary source for Judaica of all types.

Current officers for 2009-2010 are:  Eva Marmelstein, President; Judy Bluestein-Levin, Programming V.P.; Cheryll Landis-Gerber, Religious Living V.P.; Marla Hansel, Membership VP; Joni Rich, Fundraising VP; Diane Adler, Treasurer; Angie Matyukov, Recording Secretary.

Temple Sinai Sisterhood is part of Women of Reform Judaism's Southwest Region.  For information or to join, please contact Eva Marmelstein, President or Marla Hansel, Membership Vice President, or by leaving a message for them at the Temple, 281-496-5950.
